The Joy Of Mindf*ck: Celebrating Erotica On Tickle.Life

Check out my brand new article for the great folks at Tickle.LifeThe Joy Of Mindf*ck: Celebrating Erotica!

Here's a taste - for the full piece just click here.

Okay, I might be a tad biased .. no, scratch that, I am definitely biased: after all, I’ve been a professional erotica writer since 1993. Which is (counts on fingers, then takes off shoes to count on toes) twenty-five years?!

Man, I feel old … anyway, even with my more-than-slightly slanted perspective, I really do feel that there is something special about erotic storytelling.

Not that there’s anything wrong with other forms of adult entertainment--it’s just that erotica can do what others can’t.

Think of it this way: when you watch a dirty picture, you are inherently a voyeur. The only information you can get out of the experience is what you see. Yes, it’s absolutely immediate: coming -- if you excuse the expression -- straight into your eyes. But there’s no context, no background, no story.

You look, and if what you see turns you on your body follows suit. The same is mostly true for movies: there may be more of a story but it’s purely superficial. You don’t know anything about what the characters are thinking, or feeling. Its a trade between off between immediate gratification and depth.

Maybe it’s me, but there can also be a sense of disconnection. When you watch a movie, or look at a picture, you have no idea if the people involved are actually enjoying themselves. Who knows, maybe they are just thinking of getting paid -- or if they put enough money in the parking meter?
